Deacon had survived for over 1000 years as a vampire that wanted  to live a different way, but that was before he entered Rose's dreams and hungered for that which he should not have. He himself had laid down the laws that would govern the Hydden hundreds of years ago. Laws that if broken would mean certain death. Laws that he himself would break to possess his Rose. A human.
